A degree requiring 30 credit hours beyond the professional entry-level degree, the Doctor of Physical Therapy has three components to the degree: a Clinical Foundation Core, a Clinical Practice Core, and a Specialty Practice Core. The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree has two tracks. One is a post-baccalaureate of Science in Nursing. The student takes an initial set of courses that prepare them for the advanced practice clinical or functional role. This leads to the second part of the degree which is centered in doctoral level preparation. The Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice is designed for the student to begin their work at the doctoral level. The program aims to train nurses already in practice to advance their skills in their given areas and specialties. The Advanced Practice specialty has four areas in which to specialize. They are Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Midwife, and Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The Ph.D. in Nursing is meant to prepare graduates to function in faculty positions, conduct independent research and scholarly endeavors in nursing, generate and expand theoretical bases for nursing practice, and provide leadership within the profession. The Ph.D. program is 65 credit hours long. The Penn State Online programs offer a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree for practice-focused working professionals. Tuition for the Doctor of Nursing program is $821 per credit hour.

With a rich history and tradition behind their nursing program, Pennsylvania State University has had nursing programs since 1964. Utilizing online technology for their program, the online graduate program attempts to update nurses’ knowledge in order to provide advances for nurses at the practical level of practice. Like many Doctor of Nursing Practice programs, there are two paths to matriculation. Students who matriculate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing must take 61 credit hours to complete the degree. Northcentral University is an online, for-profit institution which was established in 1996. Its headquarters is located in Prescott, Arizona. The institution offers an online Doctor of Philosophy in Technology and Innovation Management, Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Leadership, Doctor of Philosophy in Education, Doctor of Education, Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology, Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration, Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Doctor of Business Administration. 50. University of Hawaii

Founded in 1907 and a public institution, The University of Hawaii is located in Honolulu, Hawaii on 320 acres. The University of Hawaii offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice. In terms of the Doctor of Philosophy degree, the school is redesigning it and it will not be taking students until the fall of 2018 but applications can be submitted in September of 2017. Tuition is $1,001 per credit hour for both programs.

Attempting to prepare scholars who approach clinical practice through culturally sensitive approaches in diverse societies, the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing program is delivered online through synchronous and asynchronous means. As a hybrid program, the program has summer intensives which are held prior to the start of the fall semester and take two to five weeks.
