Comprehensive Listing of Accredited Fully Online Doctoral Programs

With increasing frequency, online Ph.D.s (doctorates, Ed.D.s) programs have become acceptable in the workforce beyond academia. And while there might be, in some quarters, an ongoing debate about the actual value of a Ph.D. (the R.O.I.), in certain field such as education, science and medicine, it is indispensable. Want to be a school superintendent? You need an Ed.D. A doctor, an M.D.? Needless to say.

The idea of distance learning has become acceptable in the highest halls of academia as well.. Stanford is offering 100 percent online Ph.D. courses. Columbia too. Schools everywhere offer hybrid or blended learning courses, combining online and in-class coursework.

But this particular comprehensive list is all about online Ph.D. programs and the universities and colleges that offer them. All accredited.

One note of caution. This website cannot vouch for the legitimacy of any accrediting agency. In doing the research that went behind this listing we made every effort to make sure the school was accredited. Major universities would never risk their accreditation by aligning with a shady agency. It was the smaller online-only schools (that you may never have heard of) that warrants your further investigation. Where a school offered an online Ph.D. (or doctorate or Ed.D.) but was not affiliated with an acknowledged accrediting agency, it did not make the list. Where a school offered a hybrid program, it did not make the list. If your school is not on this list, but you think it should be, contact us and we’ll investigate.

All that said, there is an excellent array of great schools offering legitimate degrees in America and the world. Enjoy your search. And good luck with your career.
